The consequences of traveling on our environment cannot be denied and they are widely discussed. So what is sustainable traveling about? Can we actually make a difference at all?

In recent years, I have increasingly focused on a more sustainable lifestyle. Buying more local products. Using way less plastic. Eating less meat. As a result, I have changed many of my habits in a positive way and it has been relatively simple. This is due to the fact that you can find numerous easily applicable tips on adapting your everyday habits in order to live more sustainably.
When researching tips on a sustainable way of life, you will find an overload of information on all kinds of channels. There are articles about cooking and eating more sustainably in lifestyle magazines. Besides, you‘ll find a huge variety of blogs encouraging their readers to change their manner of consumerism. Also, you can listen to podcasts providing you with tips on making your bathroom a plastic-free zone.

Regardless, there is one aspect that tremendously impacts how sustainably we treat this earth: Our way of traveling. So where can we find useful tips about sustainable traveling? Although easily applicable, there is still a scarcity of sources about how to become a more responsible and sustainable traveler.

How can I start with sustainable traveling?

Over the time, I have concerned myself with a broad variety of ways of traveling more sustainably. Through researching, as well as through my personal experiences, I have grown an expertise. Hence, I know plenty of easily applicable tips that anyone can adopt and likewise become a more responsible and sustainable traveler. Thus, my aim is to inform fellow travelers about more sustainable ways of traveling.

I chose to write about sustainable traveling, as this topic concerns us all. If we want to continue experiencing the beauty of this world, we have to treat it responsibly. This applies to our everyday life as well as during traveling. The numerous aspects of traveling more sustainably can be implemented ecologically, economically as well as socially. There are ways of sustainable traveling concerning the way you reach your destination and equally the way you actually stay there. Additionally, there is behavior and activities to avoid, as well as those to actively support. You can start traveling more sustainably already when packing in the right way or even when choosing the destination and length of your stay. In all these aspects I want to provide you with useful insights, tips and inspiration. This way I want to support you in making the right choices and when you wonder about the small and the greater impacts.

Do I have to adapt all my habits now in order to travel more sustainably?

Eventually, it begins with taking small steps. You don’t have to and cannot change the world in one day. Start by thinking about the aspects in your life and your current way of traveling where you can adopt the first changes. By spreading the word and bringing your message to your friends, you are already making an important step.

I am aware that I also still have to learn tremendously. Certainly, I am not the ideal role model of a perfectly sustainable traveler. Just as anyone of us, there are many aspects in which I yet have to improve. In my opinion, this is also a journey. It is my journey to becoming a more responsible and more sustainable traveler every day. A journey I continue with every step and every trip that I take. And I want to invite you to come along with me on this journey.
